Fun Places to Take Your Sweetheart

visit Gatlinburg, Gatlinburg trips, Gatlinburg, TN vacations

There’s always something fun to do in Gatlinburg.

Gatlinburg offers many romantic places to take your sweetheart, and one of the best things about this small city is that you don’t have to drive to get to most of the attractions. Gatlinburg’s Trolley system offers a fun way to get around that’s affordable and easy. Each fare is only 50 cents, and All Day Trolley Passes cost just $2.00 per day – except Tan and Pink routes. The trolley schedules vary throughout the year, and depending on when you come to visit, a little advance planning with this handy trolley schedule will keep you up to date on how to get around Gatlinburg.

Visit the Arts & Crafts Community

One of the most enjoyable places you can get to on the trolleys is the Great Smoky Mountains Arts & Crafts Community. With shops, restaurants and cafes open year round, this group of artisans offers a splendid display of their skills, including handmade pottery, basket weaving, painting, woodcarving, sculpting and more. During most of the year, you would take the Yellow Route trolley to get here. However that route is not running this month so during February, you can take the Blue Route and still get off close to the Arts & Crafts area.

The Aquarium Offers Activities for Every Age

After a fun excursion to the Arts & Crafts Community, a visit to Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies is an easy trolley ride, since all trolleys stop at the aquarium. This attraction is one of the most loved in Gatlinburg. TripAdvisor voted it the #1 aquarium in the United States! There are so many things to explore, and some people even have their weddings at the aquarium!

This isn’t just any aquarium, as Ripley’s Aquarium is famous for its special experiences like Penguin Encounters. Now who wouldn’t want to pet a penguin? Times and dates vary for this and other experiences at the aquarium, so it’s best to check ahead to see what’s offered when you come to visit. When you inquire, be sure to ask about the ‘Create Your Own All-In-One Aquarium Experience Day.’ This unique opportunity allows you to combine several awesome activities like Splash with the Stingrays and Behind-the-Scenes-Tour with Penguin Encounters, for a money-saving, all-inclusive price. Call ahead to make reservations.

Gatlinburg Restaurants Satisfy Your Hearty Appetite

After such an exciting day, you’ll likely work up a big appetite. Fortunately Gatlinburg is home to a variety of restaurants that cater to just about any taste. You’ll love that there are a dozen restaurants close to the Aquarium. Any of these can satisfy a hearty appetite. You can even try some area favorites such as rainbow trout, shrimp, pancakes, Italian food, crab, smoked oysters, pecan chicken and tasty pulled pork. Mmm, sounds like a perfect way to end an active day and start a great evening.

Sweethearts in the Smokies

visit Gatlinburg, Gatlinburg cabin, Gatlinburg lodging, Gatlinburg vacations

Enjoy a Gatlinburg cabin and cozy up by the fire.

While Gatlinburg’s scenic beauty exudes a romantic air in every season, wintertime inspires thoughts of snuggling up in a cozy cabin near a roaring fireplace with the one you love. Whether you’re newlyweds or renewing your vows, or just looking to get away from day to day cares, a trip to the Smokies can revitalize both of you. There’s no better way to celebrate romance than in a Gatlinburg chalet, cabin, or hotel.

There’s a Chalet Waiting for You!

Chalet and cabin rentals in Gatlinburg are as varied as one’s imagination: They range from cozy one bedroom spaces to grand, mansion-like lodge style residences. Most have a deck or back porch area that’s great for viewing forest scenery and deer, birds, and yes, bears, too. Some of the wonderfully accommodated rentals offer hot tubs on the decks which allow for a soothing soak while you take in all the mountain grandeur. Imagine staying in a chalet overlooking Great Smoky Mountains National Park or nestled in any of dozens of other private, forested spots teeming with wildlife and majestic views!

Some of the special amenities available in Gatlinburg’s cabins and chalets tantalize the senses, and while these amenities will vary from rental to rental, they should help build your anticipation of the serenity that awaits you in your private mountain chalet:

  • King and Queen size beds
  • Hot tubs
  • Whirlpools
  • HDTVs
  • Fireplaces
  • Forest views
  • Mountain views
  • Grills
  • Large front sitting porches
  • Picnic areas

These are a few of the amenities you can find in a Gatlinburg cabin or chalet, but each one will be unique. It’s usually best to check ahead and do some research before you plan your Gatlinburg getaway to a cabin or chalet.

The cabins and chalets in this area call out to lovers with their beauty, seclusion and immersion into nature. Gatlinburg chalets are available in so many different shapes and sizes; there’s one just for you! Some are cottage-like and offer bright and cheery interiors with modern kitchens. Others offer a more rustic feel with exposed logs and cathedral ceilings. If you want to get away but wish you could bring a few friends along, there are even multi-level cabins that can easily accommodate groups of friends so you all can enjoy a great Smoky Mountain vacation.

Enjoy Privacy but Still be Close to Everything Gatlinburg has to Offer

The best part about vacationing in a Gatlinburg cabin or chalet is that even though you’ll be enjoying some of the best natural settings in the Smokies, you’re still only minutes away from all of the attractions that Gatlinburg has to offer. Spend a day shopping in town at one of the many boutique stores browsing the beautiful handmade items created by local artisans. Then you and your sweetheart can dine on whatever strikes your fancy as Gatlinburg is known not only for great down home cooking, but top notch Italian food, seafood, steak, barbeque and more. Top your day off with a hike in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park or a scenic drive, and then return to your wondrous cabin or chalet to enjoy an enchanting sunset from the comfort of your deck hot tub. Best Spots in Gatlinburg to Take Your Sweetheart

visit Gatlinburg, Gatlinburg trips, Gatlinburg dining

Sweethearts can experience a great meal before they go out and enjoy everything Gatlinburg has to offer.

Gatlinburg is definitely made for romance, and there are hundreds of places to visit with your sweetheart in February. Indoors and outdoors, there are enough activities to keep you busy and also quiet getaways for the moments when you want to unwind.

Sweethearts need to keep up their strength before they start a full day visiting all of Gatlinburg’s attractions. There are many good places to get a hearty breakfast in Gatlinburg, and pancakes are a favorite food served in several restaurants. One of Gatlinburg’s signature foods is fruit, and the apples, peaches and berries grown here are made into some of the most mouth-watering jams and jellies you’ll ever spread on a biscuit or toast. So start off with some pancakes, waffles or eggs, spread that jam on thick and fortify yourselves for a fun day ahead.

Start Your Sweethearts Tour at Great Smoky Mountains National Park

First on our sweethearts tour is the Gatlinburg Trail at Great Smoky Mountain National Park. This less than two mile hike starting at the Sugarland’s Visitor Center takes you on a picturesque walk along the Little Pigeon River. Walk off that big breakfast and enjoy the beauty of nature while you walk the easy course that includes a foot bridge over the river. This can be a very enjoyable walk as you’ll pass through a thick forest, cemetery and homestead. Dogs (on leashes) and bicycles are allowed.

Try Cades Cove for a Romantic Drive

Next you may wish to take to your car for a romantic drive to the Cades Cove Loop Road. This one way road offers an 11 mile trip into the past, where fascinating homesteads from hundreds of years ago dot the landscape. This is a beautiful drive where you can see black bear, deer, turkeys and other wildlife. Sunrises and sunsets offer a misty magic you’ll always remember, and be sure to bring your camera to take photos of deer in the meadow. The serene atmosphere is even more prevalent this time of year when most of the tourists are gone. If you go on a sunny day, February is still kind of chilly, but you can bring your lunch and stop to grab a bite and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Ice Skate and Dine at Ober Gatlinburg to Wind up Your Day

Even though Ober Gatlinburg’s skiing and snow tubing slopes can be a full day’s activity in and of themselves, try Ober’s indoor ice skating rink if you’re looking for a more intimate way to spend the afternoon. Hold your loved one close and while away the afternoon skating. The rink is very large, at 140′ x 75′, and with 400 pairs of rental skates, it’s unlikely you’ll ever have to wait to skate.

The night is young, and you’ve probably worked up an appetite with all that skating. Take your sweetheart to dinner at the Ober Gatlinburg Restaurant and Lounge. This fun casual restaurant can satisfy your big appetite while immersing you within impressive scenery and local hospitality. While you dine on steaks, chicken, pork, pasta, burgers and more take in the views of the ski slopes and mountain scenery. This restaurant also features a large fireplace and live entertainment. As you toast the end of your romantic day, try some Southern Bourbon Pecan Pie to top off your excursions with a taste of good, down home cooking.

At Grotto Falls you can actually stand behind the waterfall!

Gatlinburg is your gateway to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, America’s most visited National Park, and the only National Park that does not charge an admission fee. Its over 800 miles of trails and scenic beauty are free to the public. It’s advised that travelers start their trip planning experience here to get acquainted with the area and all it has to offer.

Enchanting during every season, no trip to Gatlinburg would be complete without a visit to this landmark. It would seem that these ancient mountains and the surrounding landscape were made for romance, and the setting provides a perfect way to leave distractions behind and immerse yourself into the peacefulness of nature.

The Smokies Offer So Many Perfect Spots for Romance

Once you arrive in Gatlinburg, what are some of the awesome spots that you and your sweetheart can explore, you ask? A great place to start is Grotto Falls. You can actually stand behind the waterfall, and this is the only waterfall in the park where you can do this. You’ll sense the serenity in the old-growth forest and enjoy this short hike which starts just outside Gatlinburg on the Trillium Trail. This walk is beautiful any time of year, and there’s always something inspiring to see.

Elkmont is the place where romance is in the air, literally, at Great Smoky Mountains National Park! The Elkmont area offers beautiful riverside spots that are perfect for a romantic walk, and it’s close to Cades Cove, the next stop on our list of romantic park day trip spots. Come back in the summer too, as many people rave about the campsites here; many of which offer quite ample space, even for pop-up trailers. Mark Elmont down too for a return in summer, as it’s a must see for its famous synchronous fireflies, and the park is the only place in America where you can see them.

Take a Romantic Drive

Sometimes a romantic drive suits the mood. The park offers several picturesque opportunities to take a long, relaxing drive through some of the most beautiful country in America. Cades Cove Scenic Drive is one of the most enjoyable driving routes in the park. Hike to Rocky Top, take in awe inspiring views of the valley and surround yourself with wildlife; it’s all here from black bears, to turkeys, to deer…even turtles! Depending on whether you prefer a long or short drive, there are many routes to choose. Try the 6 mile Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. TripAdvisor ranks this route #1 of 33 attractions in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This beautiful drive offers views of historical cabins, forests, old barns, the river and waterfalls. This is a popular route to view Gatlinburg’s spectacular fall colors. Many people enjoy this beautiful route at night too.

A Candlelit Dinner to Wind Up a Perfect Day

After you’ve enjoyed a day at the park, let the romance continue with an intimate dinner for two at one of Gatlinburg’s renowned restaurants. Take your pick from a variety of dining pleasures in Gatlinburg. You and your sweetheart can enjoy a cozy dinner in a historic log cabin restaurant, satisfy your appetite with home cooking in a mountain lodge atmosphere, enjoy micro-brewed beer with rib eye steak or filet mignon, or even top notch Italian and seafood; it’s all waiting for you at any one of 100 restaurants in Gatlinburg. Gatlinburg Wedding Chapels: How to Plan a Perfect Valentine’s Wedding

Gatlinburg weddings, Gatlinburg, TN

Gatlinburg is one of the most popular destinations for weddings and honeymoons

Gatlinburg is one of the most popular destinations for weddings and honeymoons, and it’s no wonder, as the city’s natural beauty and serenity make it a perfect spot for couples to take their vows. If you are coming from out of town as most of Gatlinburg’s couples do, it’s important to do some research and find a chapel and wedding coordinator you feel comfortable with. Long distance wedding planning might seem a bit daunting at first. While you can start by viewing some of the available Gatlinburg wedding chapels and their packages here, interviewing several chapels and their staff can help you learn about what types of packages are available. There are over 20 wedding chapels in Gatlinburg. While at first glance many of them may appear to offer similar wedding packages, it’s important to take some time to compare them so you can find a chapel that offers the type of wedding you want.

Let Gatlinburg Wedding Planners Make Your Day Special

Pre-wedding jitters are common with most couples. Fortunately the friendly staff at the Gatlinburg area chapels take the worry out of wedding planning, to ensure that your special day is memorable and that it goes off without a hitch. Your chapel’s wedding coordinators can remove the stress of planning a wedding and replace it with a professional and personal touch that helps your dreams for your special day come true. Their goal is to put you at ease so you can focus on enjoying your wedding day.

Everything you could want from a ceremony can be arranged, right down to flowers, music, photography and a cake, at prices to fit most any budget. You can enjoy any type of wedding ceremony you can imagine, from an intimate candlelit ceremony, to an outdoor gazebo wedding, bridge wedding, a wedding with a waterfall backdrop — You can even get married on horseback!

Select the Gatlinburg Wedding Package That’s Right for You

One of the first things you’ll want to work out when researching wedding packages is the difference between a basic package, an all-inclusive package, and the available add-ons and upgrades. Typically each chapel offers several ceremonies and packages that vary according to the number of guests, type and quality of wedding photography, cake size and the honeymoon cabin or room stay included with the package (if applicable). Upgrades are often available to accommodate greater numbers of guests, provide better quality photography and video services, limo service, honeymoon stay upgrades and more. Depending on your budget, you can work with the chapel’s wedding coordinator to create a ceremony and honeymoon that’s right for you.

Package upgrades can really add up, but also take into account that they can help make your day memorable, too. Ask about whether the photography and DVD production services are included in the wedding packages. These vary from package to package and you’ll want to choose one that’s right for you, or ask for upgrades so the photos and DVDs of your special day are perfect. Some packages let you select from a variety of photography services, including traditional wedding portraits, photo books and more. The pricing depends on many factors, and one of them will be the type of photography you select; i.e. number and size of portraits selected.

Plan a Romantic Honeymoon in Gatlinburg

Many wedding packages include a honeymoon cabin, but each package is different, so ask if the package that you are considering includes honeymoon accommodations. Some people like to buy all-inclusive packages that take care of everything; from ceremony to honeymoon. Others like to purchase a wedding and reception package and plan their own honeymoon getaway. Gatlinburg offers many options for honeymooners, as the area is home to some of the finest cabins, chalets and luxury hotels in the Smokies. For those people who would rather plan their own honeymoon in Gatlinburg, you can get started by viewing your lodging options here. Staying in town may be a preferred option if you would like to be closer to shopping, dining and attractions, but most out of town accommodations are located within just a few minutes of downtown Gatlinburg.

Here’s an example of how you could plan out your wedding package selection:

  • Package at Chapel A offers: Ceremony for 10 guests, bridal bouquet and groom boutonniere, music, DVD and photos, two tier wedding cake. Honeymoon cabin for two nights.
  • Then to upgrade this standard package, a couple could elect to move up to a ceremony that would accommodate 25 guests, request additional photo portraits, a three tier cake, and a honeymoon cabin upgrade to three nights.

The idea is to figure out if you would like to upgrade an existing standard package or move up to one of the next tier packages. Each chapel will have its own selections and policies, so it’s a good idea to make up a list of ‘must haves’ for your wedding before you interview the chapels. Then you can make a true ‘apples to apples’ comparison.

Whew! After digesting all of this information, you might ask, ‘If a person had to pick the very best place for a Gatlinburg wedding, what would it be?’ That question is hard to answer, as there are dozens of beautiful settings in this area, but one place just might be as close to perfect as there is…A ceremony with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park as a backdrop!

Check back soon as our next post will discuss romantic places to take your sweetheart, and we’ll go in depth about the National Park and you can judge for yourself if that is one of the most romantic places in Gatlinburg.
